SUMMARY:Blended Intensive Program (BIP) on Flourishing: Mental Health and Wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:Mental health is critically important to everyone\, everywhere. Yet\, according to the latest World Health Organization (WHO) reports\, more than a billion people are living with mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression\, making these disorders among the leading causes of disability worldwide. Suicide alone claimed an estimated 727\,000 lives in 2021\, ranking among the top causes of death for young people. Despite this alarming reality\, attention to mental wellbeing and mental health remains peripheral. As the United Nations and WHO have also warned\, misinformation and disinformation compound these challenges by deepening stigma\, undermining trust in institutions\, and impeding collective action. \nIn response to these challenges\, the Faculty of Public Health “Prof. Tzecomir Vodenitcharov\, MD\, DSc” at the Medical University–Sofia is proud to launch its Blended Intensive Program (BIP) on Flourishing: Mental Health and Wellbeing. This program will combine on-site learning in Sofia with virtual preparatory sessions\, offering students and staff an opportunity to explore in a safe environment mental health\, wellbeing and human flourishing.  stigmatisation and solutions. Drawing inspiration from the WHO’s call for systemic change\, the BIP will emphasize stigma reduction\, prevention and care\, as well as integration of mental health and wellbeing modules in universities’ curricula. \nParticipants have the opportunity to engage with evidence-based research\, lived experience\, and examples of good practice from INGENIUM ALLIENCE and Erasmus eco-sphere universities as well with practitioners and policy-makers. Participants will gain understanding of mental health and wellbeing\, while acquiring practical skills to foster flourishing in their environments. We will address how stigma around mental illness persists\, why safe spaces for open discussion are critical\, and how universities as well as public health systems can integrate mental wellbeing without leaving anyone behind. \nStudents and Faculty members will also work together in workshops and reflective seminars to address questions such as: How can we reshape environments that influence mental health? How can misinformation be countered to preserve dignity and human rights? And how can universities\, communities\, and public institutions create spaces that foster resilience and wellbeing? By developing both conceptual and practical skills\, participants will be equipped to contribute to university environments where mental health is valued\, promoted\, and protected. \nWe warmly invite students\, faculty\, and staff from partner institutions to apply. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come\, first-served basis. This is more than an academic exercise: it is a call to action to invest in people and societies. For more information and registration details\, please contact Elisaveta Petrova-Geretto (e.geretto@foz.mu-sofia.bg). \nJoin us in Sofia as we work together to reimagine mental health care and create environments in which individuals and societies can truly flourish. \nBlended Intensive Program (BIP) on Flourishing: Mental Health and Wellbeing \nThe Faculty of Public Health “Prof. Tzecomir Vodenitcharov\, MD\, DSc”\, Medical University – Sofia is pleased to announce the launch of a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) dedicated to exploring the critical importance of mental health\, wellbeing\, and the conditions that enable human flourishing. \nThe BIP will take place in Sofia\, Bulgaria from the 20th to the 24th of April 2026 \n📖 Program Details: \n\nOn-Site Activities: A 5-day intensive program hosted at the Faculty of Public Health.\nVirtual Component: One online preparatory meeting on the 16th of April 2026 in line with BIP guidelines.\nVirtual Component: One online conclusion meeting on the 7th of May 2026 in line with BIP guidelines.\n\n✅ Eligibility: \nThe program is open to students\, faculty\, and staff (minimum of 20 students) from at least three Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)\, facilitated through interinstitutional agreements. \n🌱 Program Focus: \nThe BIP emphasizes “Flourishing”—understanding mental health and wellbeing not just as the absence of illness but as the presence of conditions for growth\, resilience\, and fulfilment. \nParticipants will explore: \n\nWhat is mental health?\nWhat is mental wellbeing?\nHow can we create supportive environments for human flourishing?\nWhy is it essential to lift the stigma around mental health?\nHow can we foster safe\, open spaces for dialogue and support?\nWhat is the role of universities in promoting and protecting mental health?\n\n🎓 Methods and Pedagogical Approach: \n\nLectures and seminars delivered by an interdisciplinary team of experts in psychology\, psychiatry\, public health\, social sciences\, computer sciences.\nCase studies illustrating challenges and solutions in promoting mental wellbeing across diverse contexts.\nInteractive workshops on resilience\, stress management and self-care.\nGroup projects developing strategies to promote flourishing in academic and workplace settings.\n\n🎯 Expected Learning Outcomes: \nParticipants will: \n\nGain a comprehensive understanding of mental health\, mental wellbeing\, and flourishing.\nAcquire tools to identify and reduce stigma associated with mental health.\nDevelop practical strategies to foster safe\, supportive spaces for dialogue.\nExplore evidence-based approaches to promoting resilience and wellbeing at individual and community levels.\nStrengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and networking within the field of public health and mental health promotion.\n\n🌍 Program Objectives: \n\nTo empower students with knowledge and skills to promote mental health and wellbeing.\nTo normalize mental health discussions and reduce stigma through open dialogue.\nTo share best practices for creating flourishing environments in education\, work\, and society.\nTo invest in future leaders who can prioritize wellbeing as a foundation for sustainable public health.\n\n📝 Application Process: \nInterested students are encouraged to apply promptly\, as spaces are limited and participation will be determined on a first-come\, first-served basis. \n📌 Registration link:\nBIP Sofia 2026 Registration Form: Flourishing: Mental Health and Wellbeing – Google Forms \n📧 For further details and application procedures\, please contact:\nElisaveta Petrova-Geretto – e.geretto@foz.mu-sofia.bg \n✨ This program represents a unique hands -on opportunity for students to engage in critical conversations\, foster interdisciplinary collaboration\, and contribute to building a culture of flourishing and wellbeing.

SUMMARY:Staff Academy Webinar: AI
DESCRIPTION:Throughout the academic year\, INGENIUM organises several public Staff Academy webinars where there are 1–3 short case presentations (20minutes each) on cutting-edge teaching practices\, followed by a lively discussion and Q&A sessions. The webinars unfold on Zoom and are hosted by the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk). Register to the webinar here to get the link to join! \nAI in education\nApril’s Staff Academy Webinar will focus on AI. Get to know the speakers and their topics below. \nGen AI – Opportunities and Challenges in Education\, by Professor Jim O’Mahony\nThis session will explore the emergence of technologies\, tools\, and platforms which are being shaped by generative AI. In particular\, we will highlight strategies for the safe and responsible adoption of generative AI as it pertains to teaching\, learning and assessment. We will look at how to manage security and privacy issues\, and what specific platforms and applications should be promoted as part of a modern teaching approach. \nProfessor Jim O’Mahony is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences at Munster Technological University (MTU). In addition\, Jim is the AI Lead for the Teaching and Learning Unit\, MTU Cork and Co-Chair of MTU’s Working Group on Generative Artificial Intelligence. He has served as a member of the National Advisory Group on Generative AI for the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning\, contributing to the strategic development of AI integration in Irish higher education\, and works with the National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals (NAPD) to support school management teams in their work. \nJim specialises in making AI tools more accessible to educators and demonstrating their practical applications in enhancing student learning experiences. His expertise spans a range of AI platforms beyond Chat GPT and he is dedicated to exploring how technology can support education while keeping the work we do as educators very much human focused. \nJim produces the popular LinkedIn newsletter “AI Simplified – for Educators\,” sharing the latest tools\, tips\, and Gen AI platforms to help educators work better and smarter. \nCreating Classroom AI: From Concept to Student Use\, by Aitor Iriondo Pascual\nYou do not need to be an AI expert to encounter AI in education — but you do need to relate to it. How should AI be understood in the classroom\, where are its limits\, and what becomes possible when teachers and students move from using AI to creating it? The topic connects the broader educational questions around trust\, learning\, and technology with practical ways of building AI\, from beginner-friendly approaches to more advanced implementations in existing tools and workflows. In this way\, classroom AI becomes not only something to discuss\, but something to shape. \nAitor Iriondo Pascual holds a doctorate in informatics and is a researcher at the University of Skövde working at the intersection of artificial intelligence\, digital human modelling\, and industrial engineering. His work focuses on how AI can be used not only as a general-purpose assistant\, but also as a practical component in technical systems for education\, ergonomics\, and industrial optimization. He has experience with computer vision for pose estimation\, simulation-based multi-objective optimization using machine learning\, and the development of AI-supported tools that combine human expertise with automated analysis. His interest lies in making advanced AI understandable\, applicable\, and useful in real contexts for both students and professionals. \nRobust Tracking Algorithms for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s)\, by Dobrea Dan Marius\nIn several UAV guidance systems\, robust object tracking is a primary requirement. One of the primary goals of the different autopilot softwares (PX4\, ArduPilot or Betaflight) is to guide the UAV along a predefined trajectory based on GPS data. Furthermore\, various UAV systems employ alternative guidance systems that facilitate target tracking to enable (1) maneuvering within a defined formation for multiple UAVs\, (2) following and intercepting a moving system\, or (3) avoiding potential collisions. \nThis presentation will focus on a novel algorithm that addresses the conflicting requirements of real-time operation in a real\, complex environment on an embedded unit\, while enhancing detection performance and maintaining computational efficiency. \nThis presentation also advances the open-source ecosystem by disseminating a practical\, validated approach to real-time object tracking for UAVs\, grounded entirely in open-source software and hardware. \nDobrea Dan Marius received the Ph.D. from Gh. Asachi Technical University\, Faculty of Electronics\, Telecommunications & Information Technology\, in Iasi\, Romania\, in 2005\, and a habilitation in 2018. Dobrea Dan Marius is a professor in the Department of Applied Electronics and Intelligent Systems. His research interests include digital signal processing\, AI\, intelligent systems\, embedded systems\, UAVs\, sensors\, and IoT. He has authored over 90 books\, patents\, journal articles\, and conference papers. \nRegister to the webinar here\nStaff Academy event recordings and webinars will be published on INGENIUM YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:INGENIUM Student Partnerships: Second Matchmaking Session
DESCRIPTION:Are you looking to join an international team and contribute to an exciting project? \nFollowing the success of our first Matchmaking Session on 13th March\, where more students attended looking to join projects than there were presenters\, leading to genuine connections and promising collaborations\, we are delighted to announce a second session. This one was not originally planned\, but the outstanding number of Expressions of Interest submitted made it clear that more students deserved the chance to find their team. \nThe Matchmaking Session is a dedicated networking event designed to help students and student organisations across the INGENIUM Alliance find the collaborators they need to submit a successful application for the 2026 Student Partnership call. \nWhile several students have already stepped forward with Expressions of Interest\, this session is primarily built for you: the students who have the drive to participate but are still looking for the right project to join. \nWhy should you attend? \n\nFind a Project to Join: This is the ultimate “recruitment” hub. If you don’t have a project of your own\, you can meet teams currently looking for members with your specific skills\, background\, or passion.\nBuild Your Consortium: Use this interactive space to finalise your group and ensure your project is eligible before the formal application deadline on 5th April.\n\nProjects Seeking Partners: \nDuring the session\, you will hear pitches from a diverse range of initiatives looking for collaborators. Whether you are an engineer\, an artist\, a health student\, or a future entrepreneur\, there is a place for you in these student-led teams.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Invisible Challenges - INGENIUM Inclusion Month
DESCRIPTION:Invisible Challenges : Navigating studies with hidden burdens.\n\nLed by Grace Etienne (Student Board President) \nStudying While Carrying Invisible Challenges \nThe idea is to create a safe\, honest conversation about what it can be like to study at university while dealing with invisible challenges. These could include mental health struggles\, grief\, anxiety\, chronic pain\, loneliness\, burnout\, or other experiences that aren’t immediately visible to others. \nThis webinar is not about diagnoses or labels\, and no one is expected to share anything they’re uncomfortable with. Participation can be light and reflective\, with a focus on lived experience and mutual understanding. \nProposed structure (30 minutes):\n– Why this topic matters (5 min)\n– Student reflections (shared voluntarily):\n– one challenge\n– one coping strategy\n– one moment of feeling unseen (10–15 min)\n– What we wish universities better understood about students’ realities / how they could help make studying feel more inclusive (10 min) \nJoin the webinar online \n—— \nIn preparation the INGENIUM Student Board is launching a short\, fully anonymous survey.\nThe aim is simple: to better understand how students experience support during challenging periods — whether related to stress\, loneliness\, fatigue\, or other invisible difficulties. \nThe results will directly inform the webinar discussion\, ensuring that it reflects real experiences from across the Alliance. \n\nDuration: Less than 2 minutes\nFully anonymous\nOpen until 6 March 2026\n\nBy participating\, students actively contribute to shaping a more supportive and responsive university environment. \n  \n

She will demonstrate how students are tasked with identifying “pain points” for incoming students on partner campuses and creating business ventures to solve them\, culminating in a 3-minute video pitch. Her goal for this session is to share this framework and also find colleagues within the Alliance who would be interested in collaborating to help assess these final student pitches. \n  \nAs an Educator\, Mercedes Bravo Rebolledo champions a highly collaborative\, cross-border approach to teaching. She specializes in transitioning curricula toward skill-based assessments and leveraging digital tools to create dynamic\, student-centered learning environments. Firmly believing that innovation thrives on shared knowledge\, Mercedes actively participates in European Staff Academies\, working alongside international and interdisciplinary peers to transform how students experience and connect with their partner universities \n  \nSharon Lehane: Student Partnership and Academic Integrity: Designing Authentic Assessment for Student-Centred Learning\n \nHow can assessment be designed to strengthen academic integrity while remaining genuinely student-centred? This session explores how authentic assessment\, student partnership\, and structured feedback processes can enhance engagement\, develop self-regulation\, and promote ethical academic practice in the context of generative artificial intelligence. Practical insights will be shared to support colleagues in adapting assessment design for contemporary higher education. \nSharon Lehane is a Lecturer in the Department of Management and Enterprise at Munster Technological University\, Cork\, Ireland\, where she teaches across a range of disciplines within the School of Business at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Sharon is also part-seconded to the Teaching and Learning Unit at MTU\, contributing to initiatives that promote excellence in teaching and learning\, support professional development\, and foster innovation in pedagogical practice. Her primary research interests focus on student-centred assessment strategies in higher education\, the exploration of authentic assessment practices\, and the enhancement of academic integrity through innovative assessment design. She is particularly interested in how assessment can be designed to support student engagement\, develop real-world competencies\, and promote ethical academic practices while remaining inclusive. \n  \nSuhui Ye Huang: Physiology Interactive 360: AI-Driven Co-Creation for Participatory and Inclusive Learning \nThis session explores how Physiology Interactive 360 transforms passive lectures into a dynamic\, student-driven learning ecosystem. The presentation details an innovative model where learners co-create foundational materials that Artificial Intelligence then converts into accessible\, multi-format resources\, such as podcasts and adaptive quizzes. Additionally\, it examines how combining student collaboration\, responsible AI use\, and gamification fosters a highly engaging\, autonomous\, and inclusive educational experience. \nSuhui Ye Huang\, Assistant Professor in the Department of Functional Biology at the University of Oviedo. With a PhD in Biology and extensive international research experience\, her teaching philosophy centers on transforming traditional\, passive lectures into dynamic and inclusive learning ecosystems. She is passionate about educational innovation\, active methodologies\, and the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence in the classroom. She is currently exploring the relationship between students and AI in the generation of educational resources\, with a special focus on the critical use and evaluation of AI tools.. \n  \n  \nIf you would like to present your idea\, please contact ingenium@xamk.fi. We will get in touch with the speakers before the event and talk more about the arrangements. As a speaker please remember to also register as a participant for the webinar. \nStaff Academy event recordings and webinars will be published on INGENIUM YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Webinar: Understanding cognitive diversity on campus - INGENIUM Inclusion Month
DESCRIPTION:Neurodevelopmental Disorders (NDD) : Understanding cognitive diversity on campus\n\nLed by Pascal Hiber (URN) \nUniversities are welcoming a growing diversity of minds\, yet teaching and learning environments often remain designed for an “average” student who rarely exists. Neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD\, autism and “dys” learning disorders affect a significant proportion of students and shape how they learn\, think and engage with academic life. Rather than reflecting a lack of ability or motivation\, these profiles combine distinctive strengths with specific challenges that can persist into adulthood. This presentation explores brain diversity at university\, the realities faced by neurodivergent students\, and how inclusive approaches such as Universal Design for Learning can transform higher education into a space where all cognitive profiles are recognised\, supported and valued. \n  \nJoin the webinar online

SUMMARY:Keynote Lecture – Junior Winter School @ HiS
DESCRIPTION:Location: House G 111  \nKeynote lecture by Maurice Lamb\, Senior Lecturer in Informatics \nA good game\, like a good story\, needs a well-balanced and considered set of rules. These rules limit a player’s action possibilities\, but they also create the challenges\, motivations\, and interactions that make the game experience fun. In order to successfully act sustainably\, we must accept that the limitations imposed by Sustainability Goals not only create the conditions for survival but may also create the conditions for a good and happy life for all. \nIn the talk Maurice Lamb will take an intersectional perspective combining ideas from philosophy\, physics\, psychology\, and games to make the case that constraints not only make life possible\, but they make life better.
