Proposals for Joint PhD Programmes

Europe’s Next Joint Academic Offers Start Now. Be One of the Educators Shaping Them.

This category is dedicated to the development of joint, double, or multiple degree PhD Programmes – ambitious collaborations that lead to an accredited degree delivered by multiple INGENIUM universities.

This call invites academic staff, research coordinators, and doctoral program leaders from the 10 partner universities of INGENIUM to submit expressions of interest to co-develop PhD programmes with at least two other INGENIUM institutions (total of 3 partners recommended), to be launched starting from the academic year 2026/2027.

Objective of the Call

As part of INGENIUM’s mission to foster transnational research collaboration and build a common doctoral culture across our alliance, we are pleased to launch this call for proposals aimed at creating new Joint, Double, or Multiple PhD Programmes within five shared Research Ecosystems:

Eligibility & Requirements

Proposals must involve a minimum of three INGENIUM partner universities. While all partners are expected to contribute to the economic sustainability of the programme through the provision of fellowships, their roles may differ in scope and intensity — for example, two institutions may take on primary responsibilities through co-supervision or collaborative research, while a third may be involved as a mentor, placement host, or in a complementary support role.

The resulting programme may take the form of a Joint PhD, Double PhD, or Multiple PhD, in accordance with the respective institutional and national regulations.

Institutions are encouraged to use flexible arrangements, both in terms of academic structure and administrative framework.

Institutions that do not formally award the degree, as well as those that do but wish to participate in a more limited capacity — such as providing supervision, mentoring, access to infrastructure, or hosting placements — are also strongly encouraged to join proposals. This flexibility is intended to support the formation of consortia by allowing varied levels of engagement across the required minimum of three partner universities.

Funding & Support

Doctoral scholarships may be funded through national funding bodies, European projects, or other institutional resources.

INGENIUM will support international mobility and joint training activities across the alliance, subject to available resources.

Each proposal should identify confirmed funding sources or potential sources with a high likelihood of being secured.

What We Offer

Integration into an INGENIUM Doctoral Ecosystem, fostering shared supervision, training, and co-publication.
Support for the design of joint curricula and common research training activities.
Possibility to issue the INGENIUM certificate signed by all partners, in addition to a joint/double/multiple title.
Access to INGENIUM mobility schemes, resources, and visibility at the alliance level.

Interested academics and teams are invited to complete the Expression of Interest Form by 30 November 2025.
