GreenGENIUM: Turning Waste into Green Growth
The GreenGENIUM Composting Initiative is a student-driven sustainability project that transforms everyday fruit and vegetable scraps into nutrient-rich compost, reducing food waste across INGENIUM campuses. Born from a simple moment of realizing how much food gets discarded daily, the initiative empowers students to adopt environmentally responsible habits and contribute to greener, more sustainable university communities.
Through awareness-raising, hands-on activities, and cross-campus collaboration, the project encourages students to learn how composting works, what materials can be composted, and why this small action matters. Starting at TUIASI and expanding to partner campuses in Rouen and Tralee, the initiative aims to build a connected network of sustainable campuses that actively reduce waste and promote circular living. By turning simple food scraps into valuable compost for campus green spaces, students gain practical experience in environmental responsibility while contributing to long-term ecological impact.
The Team & How It All Began
The GreenGENIUM Composting Initiative began with a simple moment of awareness: while standing by the cafeteria bins holding fruit and vegetable scraps, we realized how much food was being thrown away every day. This small observation grew into a shared mission to reduce waste, promote sustainability, and educate students about composting. What started at TUIASI quickly expanded to partner campuses in Rouen and Tralee, uniting students around the common goal of building greener, more responsible university communities.
