Passing the Torch: BI4E Final Event to Shape INGENIUM’s Future
On 4 and 5 September 2025, the University of Oviedo will host the grand finale of the ‘Boosting INGENIUM for Excellence’ project, a pivotal moment themed around transferring its wealth of knowledge and outcomes to the INGENIUM Alliance. This event will mark a symbolic baton pass, ensuring BI4E’s legacy fuels INGENIUM’s next chapter as a trailblazing European university network.
A Unique Collaboration Between BI4E and INGENIUM
While BI4E and INGENIUM are distinct initiatives, their paths intertwine closely. Launched in 2023 under the European Commission’s European Universities Initiative, INGENIUM unites ten higher education institutions across Europe to forge a single, integrated campus, fostering interdisciplinary education, research, and entrepreneurship.
In contrast, BI4E, a three-year Horizon Europe project kicking off in October 2022, focuses on bolstering research, innovation, and governance capacities, with a special emphasis on widening countries like Romania (Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi) and Bulgaria (Medical University of Sofia). Though BI4E involves eight of INGENIUM’s ten partners, its goals align with INGENIUM’s vision of enhancing European higher education.
BI4E has worked to strengthen strategic planning, governance, research excellence, industry collaboration, and career development, particularly for its widening country partners. Now, as its journey concludes, this final event will hand over these achievements to INGENIUM, empowering the Alliance to build on them for future success.
A Day of Transition and Strategy
The event will kick off on 4 September with an agenda centred on this knowledge transfer. From 9:30 AM, registration will open, followed by welcoming remarks from BI4E Project Coordinator Professor Irina Lungu (TUIASI) and University of Oviedo’s Principal Investigator Professor Jesus Daniel Santos.
The morning will feature a presentation of BI4E’s key results, setting the stage for three panel discussions. These sessions—exploring research excellence, embedding BI4E’s outcomes into INGENIUM, and scaling innovation through technology transfer—will highlight how BI4E’s work can propel INGENIUM forward.
The day will culminate with a Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony, formalising the transfer of BI4E’s deliverables to INGENIUM. This symbolic act will be witnessed by representatives from all INGENIUM partners, including those not part of BI4E, who will also participate in a dedicated INGENIUM strategic meeting that afternoon.
Looking Ahead
On 5 September, the focus will shift to internal BI4E governance with the last Steering Committee and Advisory Council meetings, concluding with a wrap-up session after lunch.
This baton-passing event will serve as a launchpad. By integrating BI4E’s research and innovation strengths, INGENIUM will be poised to enhance its global competitiveness, deepen interdisciplinary collaboration, and solidify its role as a leader in European education.
Mark your calendars for 4-5 September at the University of Oviedo and join us as we turn the page to a brighter future for INGENIUM!
