Virtual INGENIUM COIL Networking Event: A Gateway to European Collaboration

On May 14, 2025, HKA hosted the Virtual INGENIUM COIL Networking Event on behalf of the INGENIUM European University. Designed to foster cross-border collaboration in digital teaching, the event brought together educators from all ten INGENIUM partner institutions for an engaging afternoon of inspiration, exchange, and idea development around Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL).

The event kicked off with the talk “SAMR – A Helpful Model to Plan COIL Courses?”, introducing the SAMR model as a practical framework for planning technology-enhanced international teaching formats.

Participants were especially inspired by the COIL best practice presentations:

  • Sebastian Krügler (HKA) shared his approach to co-creation in filmmaking, demonstrating how students from different countries can collaborate creatively in a virtual environment.
  • Dave O Hanlon (MTU) presented his successful peer review project, emphasizing intercultural academic exchange and reflective learning.

A heartfelt thank you to both Dave O Hanlon and Sebastian Krügler for their inspiring contributions and for sharing their valuable experiences with the INGENIUM community.

In addition, several exciting COIL project pitches showcased the diversity of disciplines involved:

  • Stamatios Papadakis (UoC): Teaching computational thinking and algorithmic skills to pre-service teachers
  • Bidroha Bisu (MTU): Application of Linear and Non-linear Models in Water Resources Engineering
  • Caroline Haun (HKA): Fostering STEM skills in primary education
  • Reza Ahmadi (HKA): Innovative approaches in aeronautical engineering

The exchange doesn’t end here.
A follow-up COIL Networking Event is planned for autumn 2025, offering even more opportunities to connect, collaborate, and co-create across borders.
