Creative Martenitsa Workshop Brings Together Students From Medical University – Sofia

А special Martenitsa-making workshop took place at the Rectorate of Medical University – Sofia, organized by the Erasmus team and INGENIUM оn February 5, 2025.

The event was part of the activities within the European university INGENIUM, offering students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the festive tradition and create their own Martenitsa.

The Martenitsa is a deeply rooted Bulgarian tradition celebrated on March 1st. In Bulgaria, the custom of exchanging red and white threads symbolizes health, luck, and the arrival of spring. This year, participants had the chance not only to learn more about this tradition but also to engage in a creative process tied to Bulgarian culture.

Participants were able to create Martenitsa from various materials, including specially provided 3D-printed elements featuring the INGENIUM logo, produced by the Department of Medical Physics and Biophysics. These are part of a unique initiative and were distributed to partners from the University of Oviedo, Spain, during the Senior Winter School.
