Student Sustainability Hub

The Student Sustainability Hub is a student-led initiative proposed within the FutureProof: Youth Action for Sustainable Change project, developed under the INGENIUM Student Partnerships framework. It is founded on the recognition that students play a central role in driving sustainability transitions and in shaping resilient, inclusive, and future-oriented universities.

Building on the collaborative momentum generated by FutureProof and the diverse sustainability initiatives across INGENIUM universities, the Hub provides a shared space for knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student-driven innovation. Anchored within the Student Sustainability Board, it seeks to transform sustainability awareness into meaningful action by empowering students to co-create solutions, strengthen cross-university cooperation, and contribute to long-term systemic change across the INGENIUM Alliance.

Goals

Central Sustainability Hub

A central, accessible hub for sustainability initiatives, events, and resources across INGENIUM.

SDG Good Practice Sharing

Share practices mapped to the 17 SDGs so students can adapt what works on their own campus.

Alliance-wide Data Use

Collect and use data at alliance level.

Learning Tools for Engagement

Support sustainability through tools like the Student Sustainability Toolkit and the (prototype) Sustainable Escape Room.

Collaboration & Contact Pathways

Encourage collaboration through projects, skill-matching, and a simple contact path to the SSB.

Meet The Student Sustainability Board

The INGENIUM Student Sustainability Board (SSB) is the student voice on sustainability within INGENIUM. It advises the alliance on priorities, coordinates student input, curates and shares good practices across universities, and supports network-wide tools and activities (Hub, questionnaire, Toolkit) aligned with the SDGs. It promotes cross-campus collaboration and inclusive participation via a central, privacy-respecting contact channel.

EOI type: Student-led collaborative project

Field of study: Environmental Engineering / Sustainability

Email: lukas.abcdef@student.tuiasi.ro

Areas of Interest: Circular Economy • Food Waste Reduction • Sustainable Campuses • SDG 12

Description of Proposal: The ZeroWaste Campus initiative aims to explore practical solutions for reducing food waste in student communities across the INGENIUM universities. The project focuses on mapping current student food consumption habits, identifying key sources of food waste on campus, and co-creating practical solutions that promote responsible consumption. The project will combine a short student survey, collaborative workshops, and pilot activities such as food-sharing initiatives, awareness campaigns, and sustainable cooking practices. The results will be compiled into a set of guidelines and educational resources that universities can use to reduce food waste in student dormitories, cafeterias, and student households. The initiative also aims to encourage behavioural change through peer-to-peer learning and student-led sustainability actions.

Looking for: Students (Bachelor, Master, and PhD) and academic mentors interested in sustainability, circular economy, food systems, and behavioural change. Participants may contribute to activities such as research and data analysis on student food waste habits, communication and awareness campaigns, graphic design and visual materials, and the organization and facilitation of workshops or events.

INGENIUM Campus Biodiversity Mapping Initiative

LOOKING FOR PARTNERS

The INGENIUM Campus Biodiversity Mapping Initiative is a collaborative project developed by students from several INGENIUM universities aiming to document and better understand biodiversity on university campuses.

Areas of Interest: Biodiversity • Citizen Science • Nature-Based Solutions • SDG 15

Description of Proposal:
The INGENIUM Campus Biodiversity Mapping Initiative is a collaborative project developed by students from several INGENIUM universities aiming to document and better understand biodiversity on university campuses. The project combines field observations, citizen science approaches, and digital mapping tools to identify plant and animal species present in different campus environments.

Participating students conduct biodiversity observations in green spaces such as university gardens, parks, and surrounding natural areas. The collected data are then compiled into a shared digital map that highlights biodiversity hotspots, potential ecological corridors, and areas where nature-based solutions could be implemented to improve ecosystem health.

Through this collaboration, students gain hands-on experience in environmental monitoring while contributing to greater awareness of campus biodiversity and sustainable landscape management.

Project status:
Work in progress.
Initial biodiversity observations have been conducted at several participating campuses, and a shared digital mapping platform is currently being developed to visualize the collected data and support further analysis.
