Senior Summer School 2024 – Healthy body, healthy campus: Building a sustainable INGENIUM future
This 2024 edition of INGENIUM Senior Summer School, themed “Healthy body, healthy campus: Building a sustainable INGENIUM future“, hosted by the university of Rouen Normandy, during May 27-31, in Rouen, France, provided knowledges on sports and sustainable development goals for over 80 masters and Phd students across the INGENIUM Alliance.
A national initiative at European level
In France, a national initiative to build a sporting nation in preparation for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has been launched. The University of Rouen Normandy, is already working hard on the subject through its CEROUEN. Furthermore, socio-ecological transitions are at the core of the URN policy.
Therefore, during the Senior Summer School of the 10 days of INGENIUM, from 17 to 31 may, Sports and SDGs were in the limelight under the theme “Healthy body, healthy campus: Building a sustainable INGENIUM future”.
Members of the alliance attended a lecture on Olympism by the director of CEROUEN and lectures on topics such as Western societies drawing inspiration from other countries, biodiversity, and permaculture.
INGENIUM Olympic Tournament
The highlight of the week for the students was a sports tournament that took place over two mornings. The tournament included various sports such as biathlon, sitting volleyball, spike ball, rowing, dodgeball, and tug-of-war, with mixed teams promoting exchange and friendly competition. The event showcased the fellowship, competitiveness, and fun spirit of the participants.
Workshops and activities
Workshops were also held to promote biodiversity on alliance campuses. During a Science Factory, the 8 teams worked on waste management issues and imagined measures such as waste reduction, vegetarian meals, and avoiding the use of plastic. Another activity called “La fresque du climat”, climate fresk, aimed to raise awareness on climate change.
Award ceremony and baton passing
The week ended with an award ceremony for the winning teams in the sports challenge, the INGENIUM SDG hackathon, as well as for PhD candidates’ research posters, and the waste management projects pitched by the summer school participants.
The baton was passed on to the South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences hosting the next 10 days of INGENIUM along with the University of Oviedo.
