| Description | The course is intended for healthcare professionals with a healthcare degree, studying at Master’s level. The course is part of the degree programme Advanced Practice Nursing in Acute Care, Master Studies. The course includes independent online study, guided online learning via Teams, and one contact teaching week on the Kotka campus. The course is completed mainly online on the INGENIUM Education Platform, with one mandatory contact teaching week at the Kotka campus in Finland from 2 to 6 November 2026.

| Learning Outcomes | You understand the concept of evidence-based nursing and how evidence-based nursing plays a central role in the development of acute care nursing practices and ensuring patient safety. You master the basics of scientific information retrieval and understand the unique position and significance of scientific knowledge in the development of acute care nursing practices. You master the critical evaluation of evidence quality using internationally recognized quality assessment tools and is able to identify reliable research data through them. You are able to create a synthesis using evidence-based information and analyze the significance of the achieved synthesis. You master the process of evidence implementation and is able to plan, execute, and evaluate the implementation of evidence-based information. |

This course equips students with the skills to develop evidence-based nursing practices and integrate them into the daily routines of acute care professionals, thereby ensuring efficient resource utilization and patient safety. 1. | Type of Assessment | Completion of the course requires active participation in the course teaching sessions, successful completion of partial assignments at an acceptable level, and an approved seminar presentation assessed numerically on a scale of 0–5, with 1 as the lowest passing grade. |
