Use of Simulation in Ensuring Clinical Acute Care Competence

Description

The course is intended for healthcare professionals with a healthcare degree, studying at Master’s level. The course is part of the degree programme Advanced Practice Nursing in Acute Care, Master Studies.

The course is completed mainly online on the INGENIUM Education Platform, with one mandatory contact teaching week at the Kotka campus in Finland from 2 to 6 November 2026.

You understand the concept of simulation pedagogy and know the scientific basis of simulation pedagogy and the latest evidence-based information. You are able to apply simulation in the development and assessment of professional acute care competence and you can apply simulation learning in the development of your own professional acute care competence. You understand the impact of human factors and human error on patient safety. You master how to develop, implement and evaluate a simulation exercise. You understands the importance of goal setting in the simulation learning process. You understand learning discussion relevance in the simulation process.

What are different simulation models?
How do you find and utilizing researched information related to simulation pedagogy?
How do you analyze and contextualize research data related to simulation pedagogy?
How do you reflect on researched knowledge related to simulation pedagogy?
What are the theoretical basis of systems thinking and human factors?
How do you implement the simulation in learning situation?

Distance learning (Teams) / learn, and exercises related to simulation instructor training in Kotka as face-to-face learning.

Type of Assessment

Successful completion of simulation instructor course and all assignments and discussions on the learning platform.
