In this course, you will learn to examine the field of social services from the perspectives of internationalization and multiculturalization brought about by globalization. You will understand the demands these changes place in client work and be able to work in a culturally sensitive manner.

This course is part of the Social Services and Psychology for Sustainable Wellbeing Pathway.

This course is completed online on Xamk Learn digital Learning environment.

The participant acquires Xamk user credentials before the course begins by identifying electronically with a passport or a biometric EU/EEA identity card, using Candour ID mobile application. Once the enrolment period has ended, you will receive Candour ID instructions by email (from ingenium@xamk.fi).

You participate in global discussion on current issues in the social field and understand its’ international dimensions. You understand how globalization affects the functional environment and everyday practices of the social field. You are able to work in various cultural and linguistic environments. You work actively in the international cooperation of the social field.

Contents and Methods

What makes the social field international?
How has global become local in the social field?
What are the multilinguistic and multicultural challenges in the social field and how do you solve them?

The course focuses on themes related to internationalization and multiculturalism in social services. The implementation may vary depending on the international activities available at Xamk during the semester.

Students working in international and/or multicultural social services setting during the course may agree with the teacher on an alternative way to complete the course.
