In this course, you will become familiar with the concepts of sustainable wellbeing and participation. You will learn to identify structures and processes that cause inequality and social exclusion.

This course is part of the Social Services and Psychology for Sustainable Wellbeing Pathway.

This course is completed online on Xamk Learn digital Learning environment.

The participant acquires Xamk user credentials before the course begins by identifying electronically with a passport or a biometric EU/EEA identity card, using Candour ID mobile application. Once the enrolment period has ended, you will receive Candour ID instructions by email (from ingenium@xamk.fi).

You understand the content and meaning of sustainable wellbeing on regional, national and global levels. You analyse the connections between individuals', groups' and communities' participation and wellbeing. You identify the structures and processes resulting in inequality and social marginalisation. You understand the versatile nature of wellbeing and welfare information and you know how to study this information from the perspective of the social welfare work.

Contents and Methods

How is sustainable wellbeing defined and what does it mean at local, national and global levels?
How are individuals', groups' and communities' participation and wellbeing connected?
What structures and processes cause inequality and social marginalisation?
What kind of wellbeing and welfare information is there and what is its relevance in social welfare work?

The course focuses on key themes such as well-being, social problems, deprivation and social exclusion. The course runs during weeks 42-50 and includes written assignments related to these topics. Students will also take part in "Working Life Thursdays" activities.

The course includes time-bound online meetings during 12.10. – 07.12.2026.
