| Description | This course develops students’ ability to use essential professional English in their own field at the B2 level of the Common European Framework. It focuses on building field-specific vocabulary and applying it effectively in spoken and written communication in academic and workplace contexts. Students learn to search for, evaluate, and utilise information from English-language sources relevant to their discipline. This course is completed online on Xamk Learn digital learning environment. The participant acquires Xamk user credentials before the course begins by identifying electronically with a passport or a biometric EU/EEA identity card, using Candour ID mobile application. Once the enrolment period has ended, you will receive Candour ID instructions by email (from ingenium@xamk.fi). Enrollment for this course is open till 30.08.2026. |

| Contents and Methods | What essential professional vocabulary do you need? During the course, learning tasks are completed independently every week. Some of the learning tasks are evaluated and at the end of the course, a written exam is taken online, as well as an oral exam online. The course ends at the time announced in the course information, by which all learning tasks, exams, and other tasks related to the completion of the course must be completed. For a 5-credit course, the student's workload is approximately 135 hours. The course is primarily conducted as independent online studies, but it also includes five scheduled remote teaching sessions. During remote teaching sessions, work is done in groups and active participation is required. Participation in remote teaching sessions is mandatory. Teacher guidance is available during remote teaching sessions. Remote teaching sessions: The course takes place on the Learn platform. Access to the course platform opens at the latest on the start date of the course. Participation requires, in addition to an internet connection, video and audio connection. The tasks to be assessed are done independently. Tasks must be submitted according to the given schedule. |

The successful completion of the course requires the completion of learning tasks and exams with a passing grade. The assessment is also partly based on the skill levels of the European Framework (CEFR). Grade good (3) requires primarily B2-level skills. |
