About the programme
Engage & Enjoy is a transversal Blended Intensive Programme that brings together students, administrative staff and academic staff from across the INGENIUM Alliance to work on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). It forms part of a series of annual INGENIUM Inclusion BIPs, hosted in rotation by partner universities, with each edition taking up a different dimension of inclusion beyond the formal curriculum.
The programme treats inclusion as a shared responsibility and looks at its barriers collectively, building understanding, empathy and a stronger sense of belonging within the Alliance. Discussion ranges across diversity-related challenges, emotional safety, psychological well-being and the collaborative practices that hold inclusive campus communities together. This edition, hosted by the University of Oviedo, centres on intercultural communication: participants become aware of their own culture and that of others, sharpen their intercultural sensitivity, and learn to communicate effectively in cross-cultural settings such as international teams.
How you will learn
Teaching follows a problem-based approach in which the lecturer sets a task and acts as facilitator while participants investigate it in groups. Each group presents its findings, and the lecturer then draws out the underlying theory. The weight falls on group work and on participants learning from one another by sharing their own experience and knowledge. The intercultural communication sessions are interactive and practical throughout.
Competences you will develop
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion across higher education institutions
- Intercultural competence: curiosity, empathy, communication and an understanding of difference
- Collaboration across disciplines, roles (students, administrative staff, academics) and cultures
- Recognising and sharing good practice to address inclusion and intercultural barriers within INGENIUM
Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of the BIP, participants will be able to:
- LO1. Recognise the importance of culture across different contexts
- LO2. Show awareness of their own deep-rooted assumptions, ideas and emotions, and those of other cultures
- LO3. Communicate effectively within a multicultural context
- LO4. Handle the miscommunications that can arise in intercultural settings, for example when working in international teams
