From the INGENIUM Alliance commitment to a local EDI Charter in the University of Rouen Normandy
In October 2024, the rectors and presidents of the ten European universities belonging to the INGENIUM Alliance adopted an Equity and Inclusion Charter, including the University of Rouen Normandy. This common commitment aims to place equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) at the heart of teaching, research and campus life across the Alliance.
The Charter sets out a shared ambition to promote equity and inclusion throughout the university community. It encourages the development of inclusive learning and working environments, the integration of EDI principles into academic programmes and activities, and the implementation of initiatives to support diverse and under-represented groups. It also highlights the importance of raising awareness and developing the skills needed to foster more equitable and inclusive communities.
As a member of the INGENIUM Alliance, the University of Rouen Normandy has taken this European commitment one step further by developing its own Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Charter. This local Charter translates the principles shared at European level into a common framework adapted to the University’s students and staff.
A shared commitment for the University of Rouen Normandy
Since the beginning of the 2026–2027 academic year, the University of Rouen Normandy has implemented its EDI Charter for all new students and staff members joining the institution. The Charter is available in both French and English.
New students are required to sign the Charter as part of their enrolment, while new staff members sign it when they join the University. By incorporating the Charter into the enrolment and recruitment processes, the University aims to ensure that its principles are shared from the very beginning of each person’s journey within the institution.
The Charter focuses on several key areas:
- Respect for the dignity of every person
- Prevention of discrimination
- Prevention of harassment and violence
- Promotion of an inclusive and welcoming environment
- Individual and collective responsibility
- Responsible use of digital tools
- A shared commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
These principles provide a common framework for the entire university community and are intended to guide behaviour and practices in everyday university life.
Turning shared values into concrete action
The implementation of this Charter represents an important step in the University’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. It gives concrete expression, at the local level, to the principles established through the INGENIUM Alliance.
By introducing the EDI Charter, the University of Rouen Normandy is therefore strengthening its commitment to building an inclusive university community while contributing to the broader vision shared by the ten universities of the INGENIUM Alliance.
